19 Avantika- Dessert talk!

Hi I'm Avantika and I see you have come to read some of my blogs. I love art and performing ( dancing, acting, public speaking), I guess my life revolves around arts. I would say I love to sing however I am not very great at singing,however, I do like to listen to music. I love baking, I guess my favorite desserts would be funnel cakes, beaver tails and cupcakes, if it has chocolate, I probably love it. This might sound really weird but I like to drink hot sauce, I don't mean chug it but I guess like shots of it. Finally I love people, I am a people's person and I just love meeting new people. I hope you have fun reading my blogs.

Sprinkles

Sprinkles have been used for a while now as a decoration for cakes, desserts etc. Now sprinkles are being used not only for the looks but also its flavor component. They are basically dyed powder sugar compressed into various shapes. Now it's versitility has increased to the point where it is used in place of sugar for things like smoothies and not only does it make them sweet but also adds a cool tie-dyed effect.

Black inked food/ desserts

The usage for black food ink or squid ink has taken the world by surprise after creating the first all black hot dog in Japan. Japan introduced the squid ink to completely dye each element each element for the hot dog and now it is being used to dye desserts to give it an unrealistic and unusual finish.

Food coloring

Food coloring or food dye is this concentrated substance that has great pigment that is used to achieve your desired color. However have you ever tasted your food item and had this bitter/ bland/ inky taste, this means you have probably used to much of it. Even when it leaves a stain for a period of time, you have probably used more product that you should have. But, in the end, if leaves a beautiful and sometimes an unrealistic color (if that is what you desire) in your food item and adds great depth and dimension to your presentation. However this is only if it fits with your theme or your food item, or else it looks unappetizing.

Lemon Poppy-seed cake

What a great way to jump into summer with this quick and refreshing dessert. Here are the ingredients needed to create this cake:
  1. 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  3. 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  4. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  5. 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter room temp
  6. 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  7. 2 eggs
  8. 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  9. 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar or powdered sugar
  10. 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Steps for preparation:
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Butter or spray nonstick spray in a round cake pan.
  3. Whisk flour, baking powder, lemon zest, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Beat together butter and granulated sugar in another bowl until pale and fluffy, it will take around 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in eggs until combined.
  5. Then add flour mixture and poppy seeds and mix until just combined.
  6. Transfer batter to cake pan
  7. Bake until a wooden pick inserted in cake comes out clean and top of the cake is golden brown, about 30 minutes. Cool cake in pan on a rack 5 minutes, then invert onto rack.
  8. Whisk together powdered sugar and lemon juice in a bowl until smooth. You have just created a glaze
  9. Pour glaze over warm cake, spreading it with a spatula or a knife. 
  10. Serve warm or at room temperature or however desired 

Coffee colabs

There are lots of veritile flavours that collaborate and compliment the coffee flavour immensely. Here are some do's and don't flavours that colab with coffee
1. Coffee and strawberry - Don't, it gives off a rotten, wilted strawberry flavour. It ruins the freshness of the strawberry and makes it slightly bitter
2. Coffee and chocolate - Do definately, it compliments the richness of the chocolate and makes it a plesent bitter and earthy taste. It creates this lovely mocha flavour
Tip: If you want to downplay the richness or sweetness of chocolate, add some expresso powder
3. Coffee and lemon - Don't what so ever, as coffee is already bitter and earthy, citrus will ruin the taste and give off a very unpleasent taste. You will also be messing up the livelyness of the lemon
4. Coffee and pumpkin spice - Do, as they both have lots of depth and dimention, they are a perfect pairing
Warning: It might over power if too much of each ingrident is added. Make sure to create balance for a satisfying result
 
 

Temper chocolate the right way

Tempered chocolate is smooth, with a glossy finish and sleek edge. If you're making dipped or molded chocolates, the chocolate will need to be tempered so that it acts properly and creates products that are both tasty and beautiful. To temper make sure to: 
-Chop your chocolate
-Melt most of your chocolate but leave some for later
-Boil some water and create a double boiler with your chocolate
-If tempering regular chocolate, bring up to a temperature of 46°c 
-If tempering dark chocolate, bring up to a temperature of 43°c (as it burns easily)
-Add the left over chucks you set aside for later
-Cool the chocolate and let it rest

The message that Macklamore was trying to say was that he was trying to show through out the song was that people use harmful words such as faggot and gay without knowing the history and meaning behind it and it is used in a negative way even when people are homosexual and meaning all this in a negative way shows that the world isn't ready to see difference and there are judgments and stereotypes that exist towards something that is a sensitive topic.

5 Min Strawberry Ice-cream

Here are the following ingredients you will need:
1.1 (10 ounce) package frozen sliced strawberries

2.1/2 cup sugar

3.2/3 cup heavy cream

To create the ice-cream you need to  combine the frozen strawberries and sugar in a food processor or blender. Blend until the fruit is roughly chopped. With the blender on and in the process of chopping the fruit, slowly pour in the heavy cream until fully incorporated. Chill if needed or serve immediately depending on the consistency.

The following facts might be irrelevant to you since you may be getting married anytime soon, however here are a few interesting facts on wedding cakes:

1.The most expensive cake ever made was worth $30 million. The cake was made by Buddy Valastro (better known as Cake Boss from TLC's cake show) at the request of NYC socialite Deborah Rose for her diamond gala event.$30 million worth of jewels -- including sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds -- were embedded on the cake.

2. Queen Victoria was one of the first to have pure white icing on her wedding cake. That's is where the name "royal icing" came from.

3. One of the largest wedding cakes ever made was in the US built for the Mohegan Sun casino at 17 feet tall and 15,032 pounds. The bakers used 10,000 pounds of cake batter and 4,810 pounds of frosting for this massive creation.


Popcorn Brittle

How to make popcorn brittle (microwaveable)

Ingredients: 
-1 cup popped popcorn
-1 cup sugar
-1/2 cup light corn syrup
-1/8 teaspoon salt
-1 cup dry-roasted or shelled raw peanuts
-2 tablespoons butter
-1 teaspoon baking soda
-2 teaspoons vanilla
Tools:
-nonstick spray
-glass/metal pan

-Butter a metal or glass pan, or line the pan with a Slipat.
(Don’t line it with parchment paper, as it can’t handle this kind of heat)
-Pop the popcorn, and set aside.

To Make the Brittle in the Microwave:
-Mix the sugar, light corn syrup, and salt in a large glass bowl. Microwave on high 5 minutes, add peanuts, and microwave 2 more minutes with 1,000-watt microwave. (Microwave additional 4 more minutes if using a 700-watt microwave.) 
-Quickly stir in remaining ingredients, and pour into the lined pan. Shake the nonstick spray to spread thinly. (If the brittle has already cooled to the point where it’s thick and sticky, spoon it onto the pan and press it down into place. 
-Cool until firm, and break into pieces.
